5 Ways To Stay on Track with Winter Workouts
It’s easy to let your workout routine slide during the winter. Believe me, I know how tough it is to get out of a nice warm bed at the crack of dawn and force yourself out into the dark, chilly morning to make it to the gym.
Not fun.
There are ways to make your winter workouts more bearable though.
Starting with adorable winter activewear from CALIA by Carrie Underwood, I’ve got five tips to help you stay the path during these cold winter months!
1. Layers
It may seem obvious but simply tossing on a jacket or sweater will make it a lot easier to get your butt out the door when it’s freezing outside. So many brands have functional and fashionable pieces that you can wear during your workout and remove as you warm up.
I love this Open Back Sweater because it provides just the right amount of warmth while allowing your body to breathe too. It’s perfect going to and from yoga and to keep me cozy during those first 15 minutes before my muscles have had a chance to fire up.
2. Sip something warm
Every morning when my alarm clock goes off, the first place I’m headed is the kitchen. I like to brew a mug of hot tea, coffee or a Macaccino, and sip it while I make the cold drive to a workout class.
3. Hot classes
Speaking of a cold drive, you know what makes that a lot more bearable? Ending at a hot class!
I’m not a fan of super heated classes (I think your body warms up just fine on its own), but when it’s so chilly outside, a little warmth makes easing into a workout more pleasant.
My favorite heated classes in Los Angeles on ClassPass right now are:
Aura Yoga’s Aura Hot Fusion + TRX BodyBlast (not officially heated, but it’s in the same room as hot yoga so the warmth lingers)
Hot Pilates’ Hard Core + Booty Burn
4. Protect the ears
Your extremities are the first thing to freeze in cold weather, and your head holds a lot of heat — don’t let that precious energy escape on your winter runs.
A knit headband or beanie, like this adorable Cold Weather Cable Headband, will keep you warm and stylish as you brave the elements.
5. Try a home workout
When all else fails, stay inside! There are so many amazing workouts you can watch online for free to get a good sweat going when it’s subzero outside.
Here are a few of my favorites:
10-Minute Total Body Pilates Workout
A Super Quick Total Body Circuit Workout
A 7-Minute Leg + Butt Circuit Workout
No Gym Needed – A 7-Minute Arm Workout

I rely on the seat heaters in my car to warm up my body on the way to the gym ahhah! But these tips are helpful too. Love the look of the CALIA gear. Great post, Whitney! :)
Whitney English says:
Oh, good trick! I wish I had seat heaters!!

Well we definitely don’t have that problem here, I’ve been working out in our garage-converted-to-gym which has been reaching temperatures of 35 degrees celsius (I’m not sure what that is in Fahrenheit but let me tell you it is like a hot class)! Great tips for the Winter though – It’s definitely that much harder to stay motivated when it gets cold.
Whitney English says:
You should just pretend you’re at a purposefully hot class :)

Yay! Twins, haha :) xoxo

Cute clothes is always a motivator for me! I drink a little warm water with apple cider vinegar in the morning before the gym. That warms me up!

I’m a big fan of the 7 minute workout……maybe it’s because I’m lazy haha…..but it definitely works for me! ;-)
Whitney English says:
Same girl! Sometimes 7 minutes is plenty :)
Candy Hoang says:
With me, I always drink a cup of green tea before fighting with my lazy, haha. Turn on music and do everything I can do within 10 minutes.
