5 Ways To Stay on Track with Winter Workouts
It’s easy to let your workout routine slide during the winter. Believe me, I know how tough it is to get out of a nice warm bed at the crack of dawn and force yourself out into the dark, chilly morning to make it to the gym.
There are ways to make your winter workouts more bearable though.
It may seem obvious but simply tossing on a jacket or sweater will make it a lot easier to get your butt out the door when it’s freezing outside. So many brands have functional and fashionable pieces that you can wear during your workout and remove as you warm up.
I love this Open Back Sweater because it provides just the right amount of warmth while allowing your body to breathe too. It’s perfect going to and from yoga and to keep me cozy during those first 15 minutes before my muscles have had a chance to fire up.
2. Sip something warm
Every morning when my alarm clock goes off, the first place I’m headed is the kitchen. I like to brew a mug of hot tea, coffee or a Macaccino, and sip it while I make the cold drive to a workout class.
3. Hot classes
Speaking of a cold drive, you know what makes that a lot more bearable? Ending at a hot class!
I’m not a fan of super heated classes (I think your body warms up just fine on its own), but when it’s so chilly outside, a little warmth makes easing into a workout more pleasant.
My favorite heated classes in Los Angeles on ClassPass right now are:
4. Protect the ears
Your extremities are the first thing to freeze in cold weather, and your head holds a lot of heat — don’t let that precious energy escape on your winter runs.
A knit headband or beanie, like this adorable Cold Weather Cable Headband, will keep you warm and stylish as you brave the elements.
5. Try a home workout
When all else fails, stay inside! There are so many amazing workouts you can watch online for free to get a good sweat going when it’s subzero outside.
Here are a few of my favorites:
