Vegan Chocolate Mousse
This vegan chocolate mousse is creamy and delicious, thanks to a secret ingredient! It makes the perfect healthy dessert that everyone will love.
If you know me, you know that I like to pack in nutrients whenever I can, even if it means using some obscure ingredients.
I’m also huge on sweets, and my daily dessert usually consists of some type of dark chocolate.
So for the winter holidays this year, I decided to come up with a healthy chocolate dessert because let’s be real – I think we’ve all had our fill of pumpkin desserts until next fall. And if not, I’ve got you covered with my PB Pumpkin Cornflake Clusters!
But back to the important stuff – chocolate. For this mousse, I wanted something creamy and nutritious, but I also wanted to be able to compete with the other desserts on the table at holiday gatherings.
So, I used one of my favorite foods – tofu. Yep, tofu chocolate mousse (in case you didn’t think my chickpea cookie cups were weird enough).
I love experimenting in the kitchen, especially once I get a recipe down. But don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t always work out the first time.
In fact, this vegan chocolate mousse took me about five tries before I finally nailed it. I tried soft silken tofu (too liquidy), regular tofu (too tofu-ey), and then finally extra-firm silken tofu, which was the winner.
Silken tofu is a softer variety of tofu, so it is often used in desserts or sauces. Typically, you’ll find it in the unrefrigerated ethnic section of the grocery store – as opposed to near the refrigerated tofu.
Like regular tofu, silken tofu also comes in different varieties. The key to this chocolate mousse is *extra-firm* silken tofu. Trust me – the first time I made it, I used soft silken tofu and ended up with a mousse-shake.
Prior to creating this recipe, I hadn’t tried chocolate mousse made with tofu before, but I had tried chocolate mousse made with avocado, which is another one of my favorite foods. I figured if one salad ingredient in your dessert is good, two has to be better. And I was right. Yep, this chocolate mousse is made with tofu and avocado.
Aside from the fact that this recipe takes no more than three minutes to make, the best part is that you would have no idea it’s made with healthy, whole-food ingredients. Unlike regular tofu, silken tofu has a mild taste and a creamy texture, and the avocado is the perfect compliment – plus it adds a dose of healthy fat!
My dessert-loving hubby claimed it tastes just like Jell-O Chocolate Pudding, and he doesn’t mess around with his chocolate pudding.
I hope you enjoy this vegan chocolate mousse as much as we do!

I made it yesterday! I opened a package of silken tofu and ended up changing my dinner plans so I remembered you had a tofu-avocado mousse and came here to find it. I love how velvety it is. Perfect balance of sweetness and cacao flavor. My husband loved it so much that he took some with his lunch today. Thank you!
