Heart-Healthy Beet Smoothie
This bright red beet smoothie is the perfect Valentine’s Day sip — packed with heart-protecting ingredients to keep you and your loved ones healthy!
How do I love beets? Let me count the ways…
Beets are an incredibly nutrient-dense vegetable.
On top of their rich concentration of folate, potassium, magnesium, manganese, and fiber, beet root is also loaded with phytonutrients.
Phytonutrients are chemical compounds in plants that give them a vibrant color and protect the plant from environmental harm (think bugs, weather). These same compounds have health benefits for humans.
Betalains are the main phytonutrients found in beets which give them a bright red pigment and convey cancer-fighting properties.
Beetroot juice has also shown to be a potent vasodilator, meaning it helps blood vessels relax, improving blood flow and allowing for healthy heart functioning. Some studies show that beetroot juice may improve cardiorespiratory endurance in athletes.
While I am obviously infatuated with beets, I know they’re not for everyone — which is why I’m excited to share this recipe with you guys!
The beets in my You Make My Heart Beet Smoothie are discretely incorporated into this sweet, creamy drink producing a delicious flavor that even the biggest beet adversary will enjoy.
This recipe is dairy-free and vegan, and makes a delicious snack or dessert.
