No-Bake Healthy Chocolate Truffles
Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day and if you’re like me (let’s be honest), you’re not thinking about love — you’re thinking about chocolate.
Mmmm.
Chocolate-covered strawberries, chocolate lava cakes, chocolate ice cream, chocolate kisses — you could actually mix those in with a little romance if you like (or just focus on the chocolate).
As we’ve seen with my Chocolate-Glazed Strawberries from last year, chocolate can totally be incorporated into a healthy lifestyle using the right recipes and ingredients.
So this year, for my Fit + Funny Foodies Cookalong with my pal Gigi and Fit Approach, I decided to take on a classic chocolate favorite: Truffles.
With the help of Manitoba Harvest and their incredibly tasty Hemp Pro Chocolate Protein Powder and Hemp Hearts, making these babies healthy was easy peasy.
Instead of coating them with high-fructose corn syrup-laced sprinkles, we rolled our healthy chocolate truffles in “hemp hearts,” aka raw shelled hemp seeds.
Check out the video from our LIVE cookalong last night for the step-by-step directions (and a little hempy humor) or scroll down for the full recipe taken from Manitoba Harvest’s website.

- ¼ cup cocoa or raw cacao or carob powder
- ⅓ cup Hemp Pro70 Chocolate flavour
- 1 cup nut or seed butter (stirred well)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ cup raw honey
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- pinch sea salt
- 2 tbsp Hemp Hearts
- Mix all the dry ingredients together in a bowl to create a uniform texture.
- Fold in wet ingredients by hand.
- Form into 1-inch balls and roll in Hemp Hearts.
The hemp seeds provide a tasty, nutty crunch to these healthy chocolate truffles, but you could always try other toppings like cacao nibs or coconut shreds, as seen here.
Thanks to Manitoba Harvest for the delicious recipe and FitApproach for hosting our Fit + Funny Foodies cookalong!

Wow! I love the hemp protein! I will have to try this one! I’m still in love with the chic cherry protein shake! It feels like cheating these days- since I gave up sugar- only sugar is natural found in fruits.
Can’t wait to try! I love the hemp hearts!
Jamie King says:
Seriously, I’m drooling. SO YUMMY!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says:

Ellen says:
Ooh! Truffles are do great in pretty much any flavor, even better if they are healthy. My plans are admittedly less admirable: chocolate peanut butter filled cookies…
Deborah @ Confessions of a Mother Runner says:
You two are super cute! I am reviewing the hemp hearts as well -now I need to figure out what to do with them!

Do the hemp hearts have a taste? I will have to hunt them out!
Whitney English says:
It’s a slightly nutty taste but very subtle. The crunch is what I love about them though!
Bethann Wagner says:
