A Perfect Day in LA
After all of the traveling I’ve done over the last few months for my wedding and friend’s weddings, all I’ve wanted to do lately enjoy my summer here in LA.
It’s so easy to get caught up in that feeling of wanderlust and forget about all of the amazing activates your own city has to offer.
But when you live in a place that has the beach, the mountains, the city, and the desert, all within a quick drive, you should definitely take every opportunity to enjoy it.
So when Athleta asked me recently to share my “perfect summer day” in L.A., I jumped at the chance to show off my city. What better way to celebrate being back in L.A. than with a sunny SoCal staycation, and visits to my favorite L.A. attractions?
My perfect summer day in L.A. always starts off with a trip to the beach.
While I absolutely love the serene shores of Malibu, the eclectic atmosphere of Venice Beach is definitely my favorite.
Cressida Dress ($98) // Straw Fedora ($48)
I like to pack a healthy lunch and spend the whole day hanging out shoreside.
Usually, I’ll come down and go for a quick jog or bike ride and then relax, swim, or play beach volleyball. On this particular morning, I decided to get energized with a little free-style beach yoga.
Palm Cove Dolphin Short ($54) // Palm Cove Bikini ($59)
My second favorite thing to do in L.A. is watch the sunset from one of our many gorgeous lookout points.
Crunch 2 Tank ($34) // Kailua Luma Chaturanga Capri ($74) // Radiant Focus Sports Bra ($49)
After a day of lounging at the beach, I headed back to West Hollywood to pick up Mr. Chow and take an easy hike up Runyon Canyon.
Runyon is the perfect spot to get your blood pumping without too much effort (good for a lazy Chow), and check out some quintessential L.A. sights while you’re at it.
From the top, you can see the Hollywood sign, Downtown L.A., and all the way to the ocean (on a clear day).
Mr. Chow is a sucker for a great view.
We had a lovely day visiting my favorite spots and it really made me appreciate being back at home. I feel so lucky to live in such a diverse city.
Oh, and having a bunch of comfy, stylish new Athleta clothes was the icing on the cake. If you’re looking for durable and adorable gear – look no further!
Weigh In: What would a perfect summer day in your city consist of?
This post was sponsored by Athleta through their partnership with POPSUGAR. While I was compensated by POPSUGAR to write a post about Athleta, all opinions are my own.

You LOOK amazing Whitney and you’re inspiring me to work out hard once I can after the baby. :)) Love your summer looks and the maxi dress is such a pretty shade and those shorts are so cute and fit you perfectly. LA does a body good. ;) Enjoy your summer as a newlywed.

Thanks Dale! If you need any post-baby workout tips – I’m happy to help! Although I don’t think you’ll need them. SO excited for you!
Jana @ Happy a Wife Healthy Life says:
Ahh you are gorgeous! I am loving all of those adorable Athleta outfits. That blue dress is cute enough to wear on a day date, to the farmer’s market or out to brunch! I love your cute fedora too!
Whitney English says:
Thanks girl! Yeah, this dress is super comfortable and versatile. I wore it on my recent trip to Belize from the plane to dinner later that evening. Low maintenance fashion is my jam :)
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment says:
You look fabulous Whitney! I am impressed by your yoga moves too. My perfect day may consist of trying out a new park to go for a hike or one of the large water holes in Austin. I am still new so there is a lot to explore!
Whitney English says:
Exploring a new city is the best! And water holes?! I’d be all over those! So fun :)
Lindsay says:
This makes me miss LA so much! Venice Beach has such a great vibe, and I love that people are just working out everywhere there, on the beach, the bars, biking, running. It’s such a positive atmosphere! I miss that almost as much as I miss Runyon hikes!
Whitney English says:
Yeah, gotta love Venice. I remember the first time I saw Muscle Beach – such a unique place!
Tara | Treble in the Kitchen says:

Aw, shucks. Thanks girl :)
Anh says:
Thanks, Whitney! Now, this is what I call blissful living! Lovely yoga poses in fresh air amid beautiful natural scenery. And, you make it look so easy, graceful, and inspiring. That takes some hard work. This reminds me, I seriously need to make time to enjoy L.A.’s natural jems this summer before burnout kicks in. :)
Whitney English says:
Thanks Anh! Yes, it’s easy to let the summer pass you by without enjoying our beautiful city. Hope you’re having a great one!
Becky says:
You look awesome, and of course the clothes are so cute! Not quite the same as the beach, but Nomi and I have been hanging out at her pool lately, which has been some awesome summer fun!
Whitney English says:
Thank you Becky! The pool sounds fabulous as well. Wish we had one!!
Krissy @ Pretty Wee Things says:
This makes me want to jump on a plane and heat to L.A NOW! So so beautiful. And holy moly, you are looking SUPER FIT! Total babe!

Whitney English says:
Thanks Krissy! I may be biased, but you should definitely put LA at the top of your summer travel list :)

And shoot, I didn’t know you could throwdown such sweet yoga poses. I have got to get to practicing. Thanks so much for the inspiration, and thanks for showing how much fun being active can be in LA. BEAUTIFUL doggie. Awwww! SO squishy! lol
Whitney English says:
Thank you so much girl! Those poses have taken a while to get to! And yes, Mr. Chow is very squishy :)
