Must-Read Monday
In case you don’t have enough assignments to catch up on this morning, I’m dropping some required reading on you.
Here are a few must-read articles that I found very interesting, informative and/or delicious from the past week.
Get to work!
Artificial Sweeteners May Disrupt Body’s Blood Sugar Controls
– The New York Times
If this is true it’s bad news for my low-cal froyo addiction. A new study suggests that artificial sweeteners could alter gut bacteria, in turn, causing a disruption in glucose metabolism – similar to that seen in diabetic patients. The study is far from conclusive however but the results are worth considering.
To note – they did not test the effects of stevia in this series of experiments.
When a Size 0 Isn’t Really a 0: The Psychology Behind Top Designers’ Big Secret – The Hollywood Reporter
I wrote about this article Friday in my post, Size Doesn’t Matter. If you didn’t get a chance to check it out last week, I encourage you to read it. It’s very enlightening and even a bit humorous.
How Busy Women Make Their Workouts Happen – Well & Good NYC
Considering “not enough time” is the number one reason most people skip working out, we can all use more tips for fitting in fitness. I especially like the recommendation to “Do Business During Your Workouts.”
It’s easy for me since I am in the health and fitness industry to meet new contacts for a hike or a workout class, but you could apply this to friendships as well. Instead of meeting the girls for happy hour, meet for a power (yoga) hour.
An Interview with Madelyn Moon – The Balanced Blonde
Healthy living blogger Jordan Younger chats with former fitness competitor Madelyn Moon about her struggle with disordered eating and how she overcame it – very insightful!
Build Up Your Blog – The Fitnessista
Uber-successful blogger and fitness maven Gina Harney just released an awesome e-book with tips for taking your blog from so-so to spectacular. It’s only $9 and comes highly recommended.
Healthy Vegan Snickers Recipe – FitSugar
Is it Halloween yet? I’m dying to make this delicious recipe – the perfect alternative to traditional holiday candy.
DIY Faux Fur Cape – Miss Kris
This genius blogger always has the most amazing DIY tutorials. This week she’s showing you how to make a faux fur cape for fall and it’s pretty much the coolest thing ever. Her guides are incredibly easy to follow, even for completely non-crafty gals like me. I’m totally making one of these.
Inner Goddess Chocolate Truffles – Pinch of Yum
More {healthy} candy. I’ve got a one track mind today.
15 Minute Upper Body AMRAP – Kama Fitness
I love this circuit and the fact that it only takes 15 minutes. No excuses for not completely this efficient upper body workout today. Don’t have a kettlebell? You can totally do the same exercises using free weights.
I’ve also got an LDLA Alert for you today!
Lorna Jane top (similar here)
This Sunday, Lorna Jane is holding their first Active Living Day at Santa Monica Place. The free event will feature a 45-minute workout with the amazing Christine Bullock, snacks and smoothies and a DIY Flower Crown station.
Active Nation Day, Sunday, September 28, 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. at Santa Monica Place, Center Court, 395 Santa Monica Blvd.
Have a fabulous week!

We are still getting that low cal froyo. Artificial in all it’s glory ;)
As bad as that sounds, I do find myself craving more sweet stuff after eating something with splenda or sucralose but it’s an uncommon habit I can deal with. I thought that fur coat was a halloween costume. :)
Bethann Wagner says:
Oh, I love this. Obviously, I’ve already read ‘When a Size 0 isn’t a Size 0’ (I loved it!) but now I must read, ‘How Busy Women Make Their Workouts Happen’ – this is a top priority for me and it makes it easier when I can get inspired and motivated by other fit and ambitious gals!
