GOQii: A New Goal-Crushing Accountability App
So we’re over a month into the new year, and for those who set New Year’s resolutions, hopefully one month closer to improving some aspect of our lives.
Hopefully.
In reality, about 40% of people have already given up on the goals they set just 30-something days ago.
Despite our best intentions, sticking to resolutions is hard. If it was easy, we’d all be perfectly organized, early rising, raw food eating, marathon running, six-pack sporting superstars.
Everyone has their own reasons for falling off the wagon when it comes to reaching their goals, but I think overwhelmingly there is one factor that trumps them all: accountability.
Whether you’re holding yourself accountable with a daily food log or you’ve asked a friend or family member to help keep you honest, having that system of checks and balances is essential to staying on track with your goals.
With our wedding just a few months away, my fiancé and I set one big goal for the beginning of the year: to get in to the best shape of our lives.
For him, that means getting a six pack. For me, that means sculpting the Cameron Diaz-like arm muscles I’ve always coveted, and hopefully earning some rock hard abs along the way. We’re calling our mission: “Shredding for the Wedding.”
So far, we’ve been doing pretty well. We’ve set a goal of weight training 3 days a week and doing yoga, running or group exercise classes another 2 days. Some weeks we hit all 5 days, others we only squeezed in 3-4. Holding each other accountable has played a big part in this.
As the days fly by though, its time to get super serious, which is why I’m turning to another form of accountability: the GOQii Band + App.
Instead of just tracking your activity like most wearable devices on the market, GOQii pairs activity-tracking with personalized health coaching. Every person has their exercise, nutrition and sleep patterns monitored, and evaluated by a certified health coach. The coach then provides guidance, support and motivation to help clients achieve their goals.
It also has a really cool altruistic element. Every day that you meet your goals, you earn “karma points.” These points can eventually be translated into actual monetary donations to a charity of your choice.
If you’re interested in trying out GOQii, they’re currently in the Beta testing phase, and looking for 500 participants to join and receive 12 months of personalized health coaching to help them with goal setting, habit changes, accountability and motivation for a holistic outlook to overall wellness. The exclusive price for the 12-month Beta program is $99 (no payment required to apply). If selected, you’ll be asked to provide regular feedback on the product as you use it.
To help me with my “wedding shredding” goal, I have two main areas of improvement that I’m going to ask the coaches to hold me accountable for:
1. Cutting out late night snacking. This is a tough one for me. While it’s always healthy stuff I’m noshing on, I tend to go overboard. I have a major sweet tooth and can easily demolish three Chocolate Chip Larabars in one sitting — a major no-no for rock hard abs.
2. Moving more. While I’m pretty good about getting in my scheduled exercises sessions, I often find myself sitting in front of a computer for far too many hours of the day. I’d like to try to start getting in the recommended 10,000 steps a day.
I’ll be trying the Band and service out over the next couple of months and reporting back to let you guys know how it’s working out.
Wish me luck!

This year, my resolution is in phases- not all at once. First phase is to detox- I have given up “Sugar” the only sugar I am getting right now is from fruit- which is major- I love my sweet tea! I have found that foods that did not have a sweet taste before have a sweet taste now- like my cashew and almond milk.
The second phase it to add more veggies and fruit into my diet- I’ve been juicing- I started out with Suja Juice and I just bought a juicer! #excited! In the second phase I have cut out all breads.
The third phase is to get an exercise into my daily schedule. I’m signing my girls up for swimming lessons- while they are swimming I can use the gym. Which I’m signing them up today!
The Fourth phase is to establish a skin care routine. I have ordered face mask, and a skin care line from Julep.
I keep adding to my list as I accomplish a goal- a year long resolution!

I am trying to move more as well and get more day to day activity. People’s resolutions typically die out after about 2 weeks into the New Year. It’s so important to set realistic goals and habits that can be maintained. Good luck with the tracker and looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Thanks Lauren! And good luck with your goals as well! xo

I could use more accountability in making time to grow/foster relationships. I always say THIS will be the year I focus on friendships and seeing more of people, but when things get hectic it’s super easy for me to opt not to travel to that wedding or never get around to scheduling that girl’s night.
Looks like you guys are shredding for the wedding nicely! Can’t wait to hear how the app has helped!

GOQii sounds like a great product, craving something sweet after dinner is forever a struggle of mine!

Hi again Whitney!..
So for me, you have an amazing beautiful body. But i know all of us have resolutions and goals for improving different parts of our bodies.
For me its trying to start weight lifting. I am a pretty active girl but sticking with a weight lifting routine is so so hard.
I hope these baby muscles start to growing.
And trying to stabilize my eating pattern, i tend to eat so much food at the end of the day, and not enough for the rest day.
Regards from Spain”un abrazo”

I found this app in Google search but could not link it to my computer. And I don’t use my cell phone for any apps. So what happened? My gmail stopped working! I was totally weaponless but fortunately later found out here how to fix it. Have you ever had problems like that? I hope not, but if you did, check this out too.
