Awkward’s Molly Tarlov Talks Diet & Fitness
Meeting celebrities for the first time can be well, Awkward, for lack of a better word.
They’d usually rather be anywhere but where they are with you, and it’s pretty obvious. But when I met with MTV’s Awkward star Molly Tarlov for a lunch interview recently, this couldn’t be farther from the truth.
Molly showed up to the Beverly Hills Polo Lounge in a super cute skirt-suit from Top Shop (pssst, it’s on sale now) that she told me she picked out herself, and immediately opened up. Before I even whipped out a tape recorder, we were swapping workout tips and restaurant recommendations like old friends.
By the end of the lunch, we had exchanged recipes.
Molly stars as Sadie Saxton on Awkward and with her natural style, relaxed personality and enviously toned legs, she’s anything but the show’s namesake.
So how does she she stay so fabulous?
She leads a very active lifestyle.
Molly hikes almost everyday, whether it be a trip to Topanga Canyon or taking the “hard route” at Runyon Canyon. For those of you who are familiar with Hollywood’s most popular hiking hotspot, it’s the long trail to the left that goes along the top of the canyon. If you’ve done it, you know it’s much harder than the standard puppy-packed loop.
She’s also a huge fan of hot yoga. Word on the street is that the studio she goes to is frequented by celebs like Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. I’m guessing that was pre-breakup.
At lunch, Molly and I both ordered salads and awkwardly pulled out our iPhones to instagram them, before realizing we were doing the same thing.
Molly got the West Hollywood Salad with Quinoa, Farro, Kale, Spinach, Garbanzo Beans, Raisins, Sunflower Seeds, Feta Cheese, and Lemon Vinaigrette on the side.
I got the McCarthy Salad with Grilled Chicken, Organic Eggs, Red Beets, Tomatoes, Avocado, and Balsamic Vinaigrette (also on the side).
As the convo turned to healthy meals, Molly revealed that she too loves Overnight Oats.
Her version is very similar to mine with a few interesting add ins. Want to know what they are?
Well obviously, I scored the recipe for you!
Molly’s Awesome Overnight Oats
-1/2 C. Oats
-1 C. Coconut Water
-1 T. Chia Seeds or Flax Seeds
-1 Sliced Banana
-A Sprinkling of Frozen Cherries
-An optional T. of Almond Butter.
This sounds delish and I am actually drooling on my computer right now.
I loved that Molly was so cool and comfortable sharing what she actually eats with me. As I’ve said before, so many celebrities lie about what they eat to make it seem like they don’t try that hard to get their insanely svelte bods.
Others speak about it in such vague generalities that it seems like they have the key to the holy grail of weight loss at their fingertips, and just aren’t willing to share it.
Molly was cool and open, and I think she’s an amazing role model to girls everywhere.
As we said goodbye in front of the hotel that day and handed I handed my ticket to the valet, Molly informed me that her car was down the street.
She had self-parked. Gush, major girl crush.

I think I would have a lot in common with Julianne Hough, not only does she seem down to earth but she always seems to be active with friends!
Whitney English says:
Thanks Taylor! I got the pants at Zara :)
Molly was so cool, as I mentioned above, and although I didn’t watch Awkward before, I’m definitely checking it out now that it’s back on just to see her!
I’ve interviewed Julianne several times, and you’re right. She is super nice and down to earth…I bet she’d make a great friend!

Molly is in addition to Jenna my favourite character from Awkward. She looked fabulous then and looks also in super shape now, just a beautiful person inside and out, unlike the character she plays which shows just what a great actress she is.
Whitney English says:
I agree!!
