Are You a Tough Mother?
Are you a tough mother? Do you have tough mother?
I do.
Growing up my mom worked a full-time job, ran five miles every day, and managed to cart her two rambunctious daughters from school to extracurricular activities to playdates, all while putting a home-cooked meal on the table each night, and cleaning her own house — a fact she made sure to point out when she heard I hired a housekeeper!
If that’s not a tough mother, I don’t know what is. I’m not a mother yet, but I really admire mothers like my own and I hope to be one in the near future.
While I’m impressed by all her hard work though, self-admittedly, I could use some help balancing all the obligations in my own life, which is why products that facilitate my healthy lifestyle are absolutely essential.
One of my favorites are the new Ziploc® brand bags with Easy Open Tabs.
They make healthy eating so much easier. I use them to store leftover healthy meals, bring snacks to class or for post-workout noshing, and most importantly, to freeze my smoothie ingredients.
Smoothies are a staple for me, and while they’re usually quick to make, having all my mix-ins ready to just plop in the blender speeds things up that much more.
Every week, I put my favorite smoothie ingredients — strawberries, blueberries, mango and spinach — in my Ziploc® brand Easy Open Tabs and toss them in the freezer.
Then when I need a quick meal on the go, I don’t have to think about what I’m going to make. I just drop my green smoothie fruits and veggies in the blender, top with milk (and occasionally protein powder) and give it a whirl.
These bags are seamless to open and close. No freezer burnt fruit here.
To show just how tough their new products are, Ziploc® is teaming with the toughest event around town, the Tough Mudder.
Throughout the year, they’ll be hosting a bag drop at each obstacle event nationwide and forming a “Team Tough Mother” to honor moms who are participating in the event.
This Saturday and Sunday, March 28th + 29th are the Los Angeles Tough Mudder events. For a complete list of events, visit the Tough Mudder website.
While you may not be getting all muddy this week, I want to know what makes you tough. Share your stories below in the comments or tag me on Twitter and let me know what makes you and/or your mom a “Tough Mother.”
Ziploc® brand will choose one tough reader by Friday to try out the new Ziploc® brand Easy Open Tabs!

By God’s sustaining hand I survived my dear son’s deployment as a Marine in Afghanistan. I am thankful and proud of my son.
Whitney English says:
I would definitely say that makes you a tough mother of a very tough son! We appreciate his service!
Krissy @ Pretty Wee Things says:
I hope that my son grows up thinking I am a tough mother, but also a mother who is able to balance it all.
And Zip lock bags are a household staple for us! I use them for everything, especially freezing my own fruit so that I can enjoy it during winter, and also for my son’s snacks when we are out and about.

I love your blog, but posts like these are what makes me not really read it. We all know you gain money off these posts. I really respect the blogs that are honest and up front and dont make posts only off of what THEY can gain from it. A blog is for the readers…
Amanda Howard says:
I was searching for smoothie recipes and this post came, which I hadn’t previously read. Your mum sounds like the super mum too! For me I find it so hard to leave my little one and go off to work and still keep the house running! Motherhood is the most amazing experience ever but also the toughest!

Even though I like your site, it’s articles like this that prevent me from regularly checking it out. We are all aware that these articles generate income for you. Blogs that are straightforward in their writing and not motivated by financial gain are highly regarded by me. It’s the readers who benefit from a blog…
