5 Flattering Holiday Dresses For Every Body Type
Most of the posts popping up on healthy living blogs this time of year emphasize all the things you can do to avoid holiday weight gain.
I’m not criticizing — those tips are super helpful and important, but today I thought I’d switch things up a bit.
Why not celebrate the hard work you put in all year long gaining a hot and healthy bod?
Something that irks me is how styling articles tend to be framed.
“This dress will hide those love handles.”
“These jeans will suck in that waist.”
How about focusing on what we want to flaunt instead of what we’re told we should hide?
Today I’m rounding up a few of my favorite — and reasonably priced — holiday dresses that will help you show off your favorite body part.
For the girl with gorgeous gams…
For the chick with the buff bis + tris…
J. Crew Metallic Dot Dress, $168
For the babe who’s bringing sexy back…
For the gal with the great bum…
Ann Taylor Black Lace Overlay Dress, $129 (plus extra 40% off!)
For the sista with sexy shoulders…
If these duds don’t do it for you, here are a few tips for picking your own hot holiday wear:
- Embrace your curves.
Wearing baggy clothes to conceal your body will only emphasize the areas you’re trying to hide. Well-fitted apparel is the way to go, no matter what your size.
- Less is more.
Not going to lie, it took me a long time to learn this one. Sexy doesn’t mean showing more skin. If you’re showing a little leg, keep the girls covered (and vice versa). If you want to try the high-waisted skirt with a crop top look, make sure your skirt is well below your knees.
- Remember that Size Doesn’t Matter.
As we discussed a few months ago, the number on the label doesn’t mean anything, and it doesn’t define you. Don’t ditch a dress you love because you don’t like the number on the tag.
Have a very merry weekend!

Great styles! Love the gold backless number. You are very right – it’s important to not get caught up in the number and show off the hard work you’ve put in all year round. Have a great weekend!
Lauren says:
Great perspective on holiday dresses (and these are all so cute!)!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says:
I love this positive spin! I haven’t bought any holiday dresses this year, and am going to probably wear some of last year’s to get another run out of them. But I tend to enjoy the figure-hugging kind with cap sleeves. And sparkly is always good. Happy Friday, Whitney!
Whitney English says:
Gotta love those cap sleeves – totally my style as well! Happy Holidays xo

So cute! I love all the dresses but number 1 is my fav :)
Ellen says:
I love this mind set. Life is too short to waste a time of the year that is supposed to be about celebration worrying about appearance.
Whitney English says:
Agreed!
Deborah @ Confessions of a Mother Runner says:
Love the cranberry dress! Next time I need shopping advice I am coming to you. Great suggestions at great prices!
Whitney English says:
Thanks Deb! The red one is my favorite too :)
