RAW Beauty Talk
By now, we all pretty much understand that images in magazines and advertisements are not as they appear.
Models, actresses and “average” women are all airbrushed, sometimes to the point of being unrecognizable or even anatomically incorrect.
Remember Kate Upton in my post, Even Supermodels Have Armpit Fat.
But just because we know it’s all fake doesn’t really make it less damaging to our self-esteem. Even the most confident women compare themselves to these glossy images and often find themselves feeling inadequate.
RAW Beauty Talks is looking to change that. Through photos of real women in their real state, stripped of makeup, hair products and forgiving Instagram filters, RAW is trying to change our perception of beauty.
I recently took part in one of their shoots and I’m a big supporter of their message. If you’re interested, you can check out my photos (wrinkles, dark circles and all) and interview at RawBeautyTalks.com
The goal of Raw Beauty Talks is to help women find confidence, self-love and happiness by opening the door to conversation about what true beauty really is: something that comes from within.
Although this blog is primarily about things that can help you look great on the outside — eating well, working out, etc. — one of my main goals is to help people feel good on the inside too, and being healthy contributes to that.
I also strive to bring awareness to the fact that we are not all meant to look alike, nor is that possible, and to provide people with the tools to be the best that they personally can be — not the “best” by society’s standards.
Once we all realize that health and beauty doesn’t come in a one size fits all package, we can truly accept ourselves and others and in turn live happier, fuller lives.

I feel most beautiful after a really good night’s sleep and then after a run. I feel so good when I run and I know I look sweaty and gross but I can’t help but feel EMPOWERED!
Leah says:
Love it love it love it!!! I feel most beautiful after a good workout. Kudos for addressing armpit fat!
Sam says:
Love that quote! So important to surround ourselves with people who not only accept but love our “imperfections”! Have a great weekend!!

I love this! I just looked at your photos on the RAW beauty talk website and I think you still look amazing without makeup! This point of view really resonates with me because I have been trying to get my body back after having a baby. I’ve realized that it isn’t necessarily about being thin, so much as being active and healthy, particularly for a nursing Mom. So I’m still getting used to this curvier me, but I definitely feel the most beautiful when I have been eating well and working out.
Deborah @ Confessions of a Mother Runner says:
Great post! I feel most beautiful when I am taking care of myself by eating well and exercising. Nothing feels better than dripping with sweat after a great workout.
GiselleR @ Diary of an ExSloth says:
Love this! Like Deborah said, I feel most beautiful when I’m eating right, working out and generally happy. I don’t wear makeup very often so I’ve had to teach myself to feel beautiful without it as a crutch if that makes sense. It’s still a work in progress though.
Thanks for sharing!

Such a good post Whitney and I definitely feel my best after a workout, drinking a lot of water and then the steam room.

I love it! You’re so right that knowing the airbrushed facts doesn’t always help make it any easier on the self esteem and confidence. I love the “message” of Raw Beauty Talks! I feel most beautiful when I workout or run. Kind of ironic since I’m almost always make-up-less and always sweaty!
Whitney English says:
Ironic to some, but not to those of us in the fitness community who know the positive power of a great workout :)
purelytwins says:
I feel most beautiful first thing in the morning before I workout! Then feel better afterwards.
Whitney English says:
Yeah, workouts always do it for me too!
Alex @ DelishKnowledge says:
Love this! I get a huge body confidence boost after a great workout! I always say I am my happiest after a great yoga sesh- sweaty and without makeup! Ha, I don’t know if anyone around me would agree but that’s always when I feel my best!
Whitney English says:
Oh totally, yoga works the mind and body and always makes me feel like a million bucks!
