Rise & Energize: Morning Yoga Sequence (Video)
Feeling groggy? Tired? You shouldn’t… it’s Friday, woot woot!
If you’re not as bright and bushy-tailed as I am in the a.m., I have the perfect solution for you: an energizing yoga sequence to get you feeling fit, flexible, and fresh as a daisy in under 10 minutes.
My absolute favorite yoga teacher ever, Jake Ferree of Aura Yoga, is here to show you a fun sequence that you can do to kick-start your day.
These moves are easy enough for all yoga levels but the sequence is fluid and fast-paced to get your blood pumping when you wake up. Jake also added in some stretching, so you can work out any kinks from your night’s rest.
Ready to give it try? Let’s do it!
I suggest repeating this sequence on each side for about 3-5 rounds. Toss in a couple sun salutations, and you might not even need your cappuccino today!

I was not exaggerating when I said he’s my favorite teacher ever. I’ve been following Jake from yoga studio to yoga studio for over two years now and I’ve yet to find anyone in WeHo that I enjoy as much. He plays the best music, has the most interesting and dynamic moves, and always keeps his classes upbeat and inspiring. I can’t say enough good things about this guy!
And if you’re in the L.A. area, be sure to check out Aura Yoga.
They have a variety of class offering: Flow, Power Flow, Hot Flow, Funky Flow, and Slow Flow. The coolest thing about Aura though is the lighting in their studio. Their innovative colored lighting system changes with the practice to enhance your flow, going from red to green to blue to purple.
Namaste friends :)
**And a big shout-out to my girl Gigi for helping film this!

I love yoga to start my morning! I usually go to Vinyasa 2/3 at Yogaworks, but at home I do my own sequence right when I wake up each morning for 5-10 minutes- it’s the best way to just feel out the body and stretch. I was just trying to figure out the other day how to beat the afternoon slump, and I’ve found that a light healthy lunch (avoiding sugar completely) then followed by an iced green tea, really keeps my afternoon energy consistent. Running at the beach is another great energizer :).
Whitney English says:
Great tips Anne! I know I always feel very lethargic after a heavy lunch. I should probably try your technique :) Thanks for sharing!
Claudia Rosenbaum says:
Cool! I love Jake. I miss hearing his voice. I guess I’ll head into Aura. Thanks for the video. Will try it in the am
Whitney English says:
Yay! Let me know when you want to go and we’ll go together!
Running Hutch says:
This is the precisely the thing I should be doing every morning. Thanks for sharing this! Also, your yoga instructor is much more buff than I thought yoga instructors typically were!
Whitney English says:
Yeah, Jake is a total beefcake huh?!
Bethann Wagner says:
I’ve got to give this a try. My morning energizing comes from a skinny vanilla latte!
Whitney English says:
Yum! Those definitely play a role in my morning routine too!
