A Watermelon Coconut Smuice + My Honeymoon Plans!
As you read this, I’m likely awakening from a very tumultuous sleep (or lack there of), groggy, grumpy, and per usual, hangry — but that tide will quickly turn.
Why, you ask? Because how can you have a case of the Mondays when you’re on your honeymoon in Indonesia?!
That’s right! For the next two weeks, my new hubby and I will be exploring the jungles, national forests, and beautiful beaches of Borneo, Bali, the Gilis, and Flores, in the land of 17,000 islands.
I plan on keeping you updated with tons of awesome photos on Instagram, but for now, picture me lounging on a sun-soaked beach with a trashy novel in one hand and a large, umbrella-straw garnished coconut in the other.
My goals for the trip: relax, recharge, and refresh.
That means daily yoga sessions, long walks among the rice terraces, cheap massages, fresh organic meals, and — fingers crossed — a spiritual cleansing with a high priestess. I don’t know if this type of thing actually exists, but if it does, I want to get in on it.
The past week, I’ve been preparing for my Bali lifestyle with Yoga Booty Ballet with my girl Danielle over at Swerve, rooftop yoga sessions with Jake from Aura, and drinking lots of “islandy” beverages filled with coconut water.
One of my favorite things to do lately is blend Naked’s Organic Coconut Water with fresh greens and watermelon for a no-fuss, electrolyte replacing drink, post-workout. Watermelon and coconut are both super hydrating and provide a major dose of antioxidants.
You may remember this technique from the veggie slushie I made last year and fondly dubbed, “The Smuice.” Unlike the cold-pressed juices they sell at all the hip new shops around town, this beverage blends the whole vegetable and fruit into the drink, so you get all that belly-friendly fiber along with the liquid goodness.
What I love about Naked’s new coconut water is that it’s not only organic, but the 1 L. bottles are also Fair Trade Certified. This means that the beverage’s production meets certain environmental, labor, and developmental standards, i.e. fair pay for laborers and safe working conditions.
Additionally, every purchase of Naked Coconut Water provides premiums for coconut farmers to go toward tree replanting and water purification.
Indonesia is actually the world’s second largest producer of coconuts, and when we keep our planet and it’s inhabitants happy and well cared for, it makes for a hospitable environment for travel. Everybody wins!
So don’t be jealous if you see me chilling in Bali, drinking sweet nectar straight from the coconut — you can capture the vibe too with this easy, healthy recipe!
- 1 C. Naked Coconut Water
- 1 C. Watermelon
- 1 C. Spinach
- Handful of Ice
- Toss all ingredients in a blender and liquefy.
- Drink immediately.
This drink is so tasty and refreshing, and oh so sweet from the natural sugar in the coconut and watermelon. The spinach provides you with even more vitamins and antioxidants and makes for the perfect post-workout fuel.
I wonder if they’re hip to the smuice yet in Bali…

Have an amazing and relaxing time on your honeymoon! Indonesia sounds incredible! This “smuice” sounds so lovely and refreshing. I need to try it this week since we are having a heat wave here in NE and I think this would be perfect to cool down with! Enjoy your trip!
